The Springtime of Lovers

The Springtime of Lovers is a setting of one of Rumi's many powerful poems.

A spiritual master as well as a mystic, Rumi often portrayed spiritual ecstasy using words more akin to earthy love. The piece aims to convey the tenderness of the experience as well as a sense of transcendence, near the end, when one realises that the heart is the source of it all.

The springtime of Lovers has come,
That this dust bowl may become a garden;
The word of heaven has come,
That the bird of the soul may rise in flight.

The sea becomes full of pearls,
The salt marsh becomes sweet as kauthar,
The stone becomes a ruby from the mine,
The body becomes wholly soul.

For only from the heart
May you touch the sky.
